The 29-year-old entertainer fights off the enemy in style, rocking couture by Givenchy and Norma Kamali in the Francis Lawrence-directed video. “[The song is] definitely riskier than something a bit more … simple,” Beyonce recently told Billboard.com about the song, which is off her upcoming album, 4. “I just heard the track and loved that it was so different. It felt a bit African, a bit electronic and futuristic. It reminded me of what I love, which is mixing different cultures and eras - things that typically don’t go together - to create a new sound,” she shared. I want it to be something that they can chew on and digest, something new, and not what I’ve put out before but not so farfetched either. On her new single “I Am Woman“: “When Ryan Tedder brought it to me, my mouth dropped to the floor and I was so excited about it. Me and him are both perfectionist so we had seven different mixes of the song before we got to the final version that is out now. JS: We’ve recorded about eleven but there all so different, I need to find a way to make things sound cohesive and make sure they match. I’m still getting new songs and recording new stuff so will see how it goes. JJ: Are we going to hear anything unexpected? JS: There’s a song that’s more dance influenced with a club sound, like a club/house vibe. Then there’s a song that’s just a ballad with my vocals over a piano that I worked on with John Legend called “Hands.” We worked on it earlier this year and it’s a beautiful ballad. I’m not sure yet but we might be putting strings on it. It goes ‘My hand in your hand, holding on forever, keeping each other close.’ It’s really really sweet but haunting at the same time. |
